I’ve finished my first FO of 2009! Hooray!

The first pair of socks for 2009

I started these the night before my first day of work, and just over two months later, they’re finished. It feels like so much longer, and I didn’t think they’d ever get done. But sure enough, I finished off the leg of the second sock last week, and that’s all I really needed. The heel, gusset, foot, and toe took only a couple of nights of knitting to get done, even with plenty of Xboxing in between.

So, with those complete, I’m free to start up a new project. Which I have. Hee. I’ve been planning for a while what to knit next, and I’ve had the skein of yarn all balled up for weeks now. I’m knitting Jesh’s Hera pattern, with Gaslight Dyeworks yarn in the Donna Noble color. I am totally a geek. No pictures yet, since I just started this evening and I just have the cuff done so far. I’m hoping this pair will go much more quickly. If I can finish by the first week of March, maybe I’ll feel like I’m back on track with this 2009 Sockfest I took on. Right now, I’m definitely behind.

And as for the non-knitting parts of life… I got a new plant the other day. It’s a graptopetalum amethystinum, a cute little succulent. I bought it from twodoggardens on Etsy.

I think the succulents are among my favorite kinds of plants. That’s the conclusion I came to when I walked through SIU’s greenhouses last spring for a plants lab, anyway. It’s a great little addition to the kitchen window. I just wish it would get sunny because I’m sure the little thing could use some good light after four days in a box.

Update for the shop is still planned for this weekend.
